ShipWrecked/Annie’s Grave Revisted

Shock. Horror. Electric Frankenstein - Shipwrecked! An experiment in sprinted ferocity.

No one knew what to expect that cold Los Angeles morning of December 7, 2022. Seven musicians greeted each other, some for the first time, outside the famous Hollywood California Ship’rec Recording Studio, owned by Rancid’s very own, Tim Armstrong.

Was this really happening? Did three decades of EF members (both new and old) JUST show up to record in California?

You betcha, PUNK!

A few months earlier, and somewhere on the East Coast, the Canzonieri brothers - Sal and Dan, teamed up with old EF members, Jaime Pina and Scott Wilkins, and hatched a diabolical plan: push the limits of how much rock n roll could be held in a slimy bucket of punk in an extremely short amount of time.

It was on.

Scott booked two days of studio time and a month later, the band flew in, showed up, plugged in (maybe tuned up), played, recorded, and then left. No practice, no songs, and no lyrics.

Just plug in and rock out.

This process left very little time for overdubs. No bullshit. No excuses.

It was nuts.

One question remained: Could EF still lay down the nastiest punk given the extreme circumstances?

This east-west EF punk collaboration ain’t pretty my friends… It’s raw. It’s fun, and most importantly, it’s a brand-spankin’s new Electric Frankenstein record!

FINALLY.

Punk Rock done right. Fast and loud and SOMETIMES MEAN.

The end result: Electric Frankenstein - Shipwrecked - a full-on, no-holds-barred, punk rock onslaught. Songs forged in a speed, and ferocity, and emblazoned with very little thought.

Side A: All songs written and recorded in two days at Tim Armstrong's Ship'rec Studios in Hollywood, CA. Sound engineered by TJ Rivera, with help from Tim Armstrong, and assistant, Nate Bonner.

Side B: Three old EF songs, re-imagined, and one cover song. Two of the b-side songs were recorded at Ship’rec, as well.

I gotta tell ya, punk, this record feels just right.

So… we hope you enjoy Electric Frankenstein - Shipwrecked/Annie’s Grave.

It was fun as hell to make.

XOXOXO,
Electric Frankenstein

PS - One of the b-side songs and the secret unreleased cover were recorded back in the safety of Raleigh, NC a few months later.
